About the farms that will be visited
Summitholm Farms
With an on-farm creamery and processing facility, this operation focuses on full vertical integration. Its herd of 415 cows, milked three times a day, benefits from a perfectly managed transition period that supports both performance and longevity, with 52% of cows in their third lactation or higher. This exemplary herd management placed the farm among the top 1% of best-managed dairy herds in Canada in 2021 and 2022.
Boernview Farms
With 11 robots and a herd of 435 cows, this farm ranked among the top 1% of best-managed dairy herds in Canada in 2021. Thanks to a retrofit of the milking parlour for calves, efficient cross-ventilation and rigorous female selection, every detail is optimized. The result: outstanding herd management placing the operation in the top 10% for Herd Performance Index (HPI).
Hendriks Dairies Ltd.
This 100% Jersey herd of 110 cows in a milking parlour stands out for high-level herd management, with a 42% conception rate and an age at first calving of just 19 months. Excellence is also recognized nationally: Hendriks West Tracy received the Jersey Canada Hall of Fame award for the highest annual BCA index (score of 1062 for fat and protein). As a result, the herd ranks number 1 in Ontario for average Jersey herd BCA and within the top 10% for HPI.
Ringia Farms
With 420 cows, this farm operates a 50-stall DeLaval rotary parlour, milking three times per day for maximum efficiency. The use of Afimilk herd management software and a rail-mounted calf feeder reflects a modern, well-structured approach. Precision management has placed the operation among the top 1% of best-managed dairy herds in Canada in 2021.
