Uniag Cooperative is taking part in a project funded by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) through the Prime-Vert program. The first meeting of the regional cohort was held on January 29. Limited to a maximum of 15 farm businesses, the cohort aims to encourage exchanges and the sharing of expertise. The theme for the next two years is soil health and conservation in arable farming, with a particular focus on cover crops.
Marie-Ève Bernard, agronomist at MAPAQ, introduced the subject of cover crops in relation to soil health, providing an overview of the many aspects that can be addressed. The presentation enabled Vicky Doyon, who is in charge of the cohort, to get a better idea of the group’s interests, with a view to organising future meetings. The event also provided an opportunity for rich exchanges between the various speakers and producers present.
The farmer members of the cohort have committed to adopting or perfecting two agri-environmental practices of their choice, promoting soil health and conservation in 2025 and 2026. At networking meetings, they will have the opportunity to share their experiences and results within the group.
‘We’re already looking forward to the second meeting, building on the success of the first and the enthusiasm of the group,’ exclaims organiser Vicky Doyon.
