Since 2021, Uniag Cooperative has taken concrete steps to include social, environmental, economic, and ethical impacts in its decision-making.
An initial assessment and action prioritization were carried out, and this process will be reviewed annually as part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.

Our goal is to act as a responsible cooperative and corporate citizen—positively impacting society while remaining economically sustainable.

Here is an overview of the initiatives led by Uniag Cooperative.

SOCIAL IMPLICATION

Social involvement is a key value at Uniag Cooperative.
We are proud to support local initiatives that make a real difference in our communities. Here are some projects we’ve contributed to:

  • Uniag employees helped renovate a barn at the Ormstown Exhibition site.

  • Every year, Uniag contributes over $50,000 in scholarships, donations, and sponsorships. These funds support the next generation, agricultural activities, and community events.

👥 Organizations supported in 2024:

🐶 Community Project

Uniag is pleased to offer a 1,175 m² space to the municipality of Sainte-Martine to develop a new dog park.

🌱 Support for the next generation

Through the Cooperative Fund for Young Farmers, Uniag provides training and financial support to new agricultural producers.

REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

In line with its mission and operations, Uniag Cooperative carries out numerous deliveries and site visits across its territory.
To better manage and reduce the environmental impact of these activities, we have calculated our annual CO₂ emissions.

Since the start of the pandemic, the adoption of remote work has led to a significant reduction in our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This practice, which is still in place today, continues to have a positive impact.

📉 Results:

  • Before 2019: 291 tons of CO₂ per year

  • Now: 166 tons of CO₂ per year

  • Outcome: a reduction of 125 tons of CO₂ per year

Taking action for sustainable mobility

Did you know that free electric vehicle charging stations are available for customers at five of our cooperative locations?

In addition, many of our advisors use 100% electric vehicles, helping reduce our carbon footprint every day.

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION

In order to reduce our energy footprint and to reduce our residual materials we have put in place programs such as

  • the installation of LED light bulbs;
  • the removal of plastic bags in all branches, one year before the federal law came into effect;
  • a significant reduction in paper use, notably through the use of a software.

SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY

We prioritize local purchasing by sourcing goods and services from Ontario and Quebec.

Uniag Cooperative is proud to take part in the AgriRÉCUP program.
We offer four drop-off points for the recovery of various agricultural plastics, including:

  • Containers and bulk tanks

  • Tubing

  • Silage tarps

  • Silo bags

  • Hay bale twine

  • And much more!
