Napierville, October 26, 2022 - For Cooperation Week and on the fifth anniversary since the merger that gave birth to Uniag Cooperative, everyone was invited to remember and share their good cooperative memories. In return for the 175 comments, mentions and shares accumulated throughout the week, the cooperative made a $350 donation to Au Coeur des Familles Agricoles and a second donation of the same amount to the Canadian Mental Health Association in Ontario.
It is under the theme of historical events that Uniag Cooperative has chosen to highlight this 2022 edition of Cooperation Week, from October 16 to 22. Although the cooperative model took shape towards the end of the 19th century, the roots of our agricultural cooperative go back to 1934, when the Coopérative de Sainte-Martine was founded. A video outlining the highlights of its history was created and broadcast by the cooperative. Agricultural producer members, former employees and current employees shared their respective memories on the Uniag Facebook page.
The objective of this initiative, in addition to promoting the cooperative model, was to give back to organizations that work for the mental health of agricultural producers in the region. As a result, the $700 generated from interactions with Uniag Cooperative’s online publications during Co-op Week was split and donated to Au Coeur des Familles Agricoles in Quebec and the Canadian Mental Health Association, which contributes to the Farmers’ Wellness Initiative in Ontario.
“I would like to thank all the clients and members who contribute to keeping Uniag Cooperative a healthy, strong cooperative, after more than 85 years of existence. We would like to underline your important contribution to the vitality of our local economy, and wish you a good end to the harvest,” said Mr. Sylvain Boyer, General Manager of Uniag Cooperative.
In a traditional manner, a few “coop squads” made up of employees went to meet members directly at the farm to thank them for their trust and loyalty.
