The two companies will work together to meet the future needs of Canadian agricultural producers.
La Coop fédérée, an agri-food cooperative with facilities across Canada and headquartered in Montreal, has entered into a partnership agreement with Maizex Seeds to create a joint venture. Maizex Seeds is a leading corn and soybean seed company based in Tilbury, Ontario. This partnership will allow both companies to consolidate their presence in Canada, develop synergies between their respective operations and position themselves as a 100% Canadian farmer-owned seed company.
Maizex Seeds produces and sells corn and soybean seed while La Coop fédérée produces and sells corn, soybean, grain and forage seed through its Elite banner. The partnership with Maizex Seeds will allow both companies to build on their existing expertise and strength in the market. Over the next few months, the two groups will work together to develop a market development strategy to make their products accessible and supportive to all agricultural producers across the country.
“As the seed and grain distribution industry becomes increasingly competitive, we are pleased to invest and expand our presence in Ontario and the Canadian market,” said Ghislain Gervais, President of La Coop fédérée. “This partnership will allow us to gain efficiencies and, above all, improve the seed offering for all agricultural producers in Canada.
“La Coop fédérée is the ideal partner for Maizex Seeds, not only because it is owned by agricultural producers and shares common values with us, but also because of their common desire to invest in the size and scope of the seed industry for many years to come, in order to better serve the needs of Canadian agricultural producers,” says Dave Baute, President and CEO of Maizex Seeds. He adds that during its history, La Coop fédérée has been successful and has become one of the largest agri-businesses in Canada.
“This partnership with Maizex Seeds will create a more diversified product portfolio for the benefit of Canadian agricultural producers,” said Sébastien Léveillé, Executive Vice President of La Coop’s Agricultural Division. “We believe that it is important for agricultural producers across the country to have access to a wide range of Canadian seeds. Maizex Seeds shares our corporate values and, like us, is working to increase the prosperity of Canadian agricultural producers and their families.”
